Location and Geography
Understanding location and geography is essential to appreciate where communities are located and why. However, geography is more than names on a map. If you have knowledge of the geography of a particular location, you’ll be better able to anticipate the issues that might arise when engaging with potential students. Since students are influenced by their surroundings, it helps to know where they are coming from.
Most personal decisions are influenced by geographic considerations, and choosing where and what to study are no exceptions. By understanding the location and geography of a particular region, you can gain a greater insight into how the community works and into your potential students’ behaviour. For example, a comparison between rural isolated regions with highly populated urban areas would provide a contrasting profile in terms of the students’ understanding of formal education, and therefore how they should be approached.
